Question mark still hangs over former ARU development

Published 11th January, 2012

Despite a recent presentation to members of the public and Chelmsford Borough Councillors by developers Genesis Housing Association, questions are still being asked as to what community facilities are to be created for the people of Chelmsford as part of the landmark development on the former Anglia Ruskin University Central campus.

Members of Central Baptist Church who attended the public meeting, who wish to ensure that the Frederick Chancellor Building, a community building built for the people of Chelmsford and used for the benefit of the community ever since, left disappointed and confused as to what is really planned.

Speaking after the meeting, Senior Deacon David Spurling said, "there was no comment as to the offer that we had made to explore the possibility of working with Genesis to provide facilities for the benefit of the community, only that there would be a 'day-room' within the Warden assisted accommodation elsewhere on the development."

"This fails to answer the needs of the thousands of people who live in the Town Centre, the additional residents who will be moving into properties on this and other planned developments in the immediate vicinity and especially those most vulnerable in our society."
