Central Baptist Church, Chelmsford - A Place To Belong
Central Baptist is a community church in the heart of Essex, UK, which is open seven days a week.
We are a warm and welcoming church, offering friendship to all.
We are a multi-generational church – meeting the needs of children and young people, young singles and young couples, people in mid-life and seniors too.
We are a multi-cultural church – we delight in our diversity in Christ!
We are a church with people from all walks of life. What we have in common is a living faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and the Saviour of the world.
We have an official church membership of around 400 people but the wider church family is much larger. The Sunday services include a creche, children's work and a chance to meet afterwards for tea and coffee.
In addition to our many church activities, we also let our premises to authorities and businesses including Essex County Council and Anglia Ruskin University so through the week there could be around 1000 people from the community in our church.
Through a lot of hard work and effort, Central Baptist Church has transformed itself from an old, dark building with a declining congregation, to a rather special community building with a flourishing membership.
We are directly in the city centre, opposite the railway station and surrounded by offices. The challenge has been to develop a role specific to our situation.
Thanks to our location, we are able to run a café, mental health clubs, a child contact centre and now a community resource centre.
We are different from many other churches. We are a seven day a week church. From 8.30am to 10pm, the place hums with life.
